Udaipur Travel Blog 2023: Udaipur is a city that has always fascinated me with its rich history, culture, and stunning architecture. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful city and explore its wonders. Here is my travelog about Udaipur:

Udaipur is a city and a municipal corporation in the Udaipur district in Rajasthan, India. It serves as the administrative headquarters of the district and was the historical capital of the kingdom of Mewar in the former Rajputana Agency. The city was founded in 1559 by Udai Singh II of the Sisodia clan of Rajputs, who moved the capital from Chittorgarh after it was besieged by Akbar. Udaipur remained the capital until 1818 when it became a British principality. After India’s independence in 1947, the province of Mewar became part of Rajasthan.

Udaipur is located in the southernmost part of Rajasthan, near the border with Gujarat, and is surrounded by the Aravalli Range, which separates the city from the Thar Desert. The city is strategically located midway between two major Indian metropolises, about 660 km from Delhi and 800 km from Mumbai. The connection to the ports of Gujarat also gives Udaipur a geographical advantage. The city is well connected to surrounding cities and states by road, rail, and air, with Maharana Pratap Airport serving as the main airport. Hindi, English, and Rajasthani (Mewari) are the most commonly spoken languages in Udaipur.

Day 1: Arrival in Udaipur

I arrived in Udaipur in the afternoon and checked into my hotel, which was located near Lake Pichola. After freshening up, I headed to the lake for a boat ride. The boat ride offered a breathtaking view of the city’s palaces and temples, and the sunset over the lake was truly mesmerizing.

Day 2: City Palace and Jagdish Temple

On the second day of my trip, I visited the City Palace, one of the most famous landmarks in Udaipur. The palace was built by the Mewar dynasty and is a beautiful blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The palace houses several museums and art galleries, and I spent several hours exploring them.

After visiting the City Palace, I headed to the nearby Jagdish Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is an architectural marvel with intricate carvings and sculptures.

Day 3: Saheliyon Ki Bari and Bagore Ki Haveli

On the third day of my trip, I visited Saheliyon Ki Bari, a beautiful garden created for the women of the royal family. The garden has several fountains, marble pavilions, and beautiful flower beds.

Later in the day, I visited Bagore Ki Haveli, a 300-year-old mansion that has been converted into a museum. The haveli offers a glimpse into the lives of the royal families of Udaipur and houses various artifacts, including traditional Rajasthani costumes and musical instruments.

Day 4: Monsoon Palace and Fateh Sagar Lake

On my last day in Udaipur, I visited the Monsoon Palace, located on a hill overlooking the city. The palace was built by Maharana Sajjan Singh in the 19th century and offers a panoramic view of the city and the surrounding Aravalli hills.

Later in the day, I visited Fateh Sagar Lake, another man-made lake popular with tourists. The lake offers various water sports, and I enjoyed jet skiing and parasailing.

Overall, my trip to Udaipur was an unforgettable experience and I would recommend this beautiful city to anyone who loves history, culture, and architecture.
